CITY COUNCIL CAMPAIGN
Meet R.J. Whitlow

BACKGROUND
R.J. and his wife Kristi are proud to call Marysville their home for the past 23+ years. When their 3 kids were finishing up high school at Pilchuck and Getchell, they both started moving forward with their dream of creating a destination gathering place where people can live authentic community together. Centered on R.J.’s passion for brewing and craft beer and Kristi’s passion for cuisine and hospitality, 5 Rights Brewing company opened 10 years ago on July 2, 2015. Over the years their vision has flourished and the growing 5 Rights Family has become a vital part of Marysville’s culture and efforts to support various causes within the community.
The driving force behind this vision is R.J.’s faithful dedication to loving his community and putting the needs of others before his own. Any time at all spent with R.J. will give you a clear picture of his commitment to listening to people’s needs and finding ways to help however necessary. He is a man that is truly living out his calling and this run for City Council is an extension of that calling.
Professionally, R.J. has shown himself to be an adept and skilled businessman and team builder. Despite all of the challenges facing small businesses here in the State of Washington including rapidly rising labor and material costs, record taxes and the paralyzing residual of the long-term COVID shutdowns of service industries, R.J. has led 5 Rights Brewing Company on a path of steady and extensive growth. The skills and experience he has learned through these rapidly changing economic times will greatly benefit his participation in local government. Most importantly his leadership philosophy of putting others before self has created a thriving community culture that continues to make major contributions to our community and will naturally extend to his potential work with our City Council.
APPROACH & VISION
His approach is simple: lead with accountability, act with purpose, and always put people first. With a strong foundation in personal and financial responsibility, RJ believes in practical solutions, open communication, and a city government that works for the people—not around them.
RJ isn’t a career politician—he’s a neighbor, a listener, and a problem-solver who believes in building a safer, stronger, more connected Marysville for everyone.
